“We need help getting food to folks who need it and doing it in a way that is humane and equitable,” Kirk Mayes, the CEO of Forgotten Harvest, told the group during a Zoom call Sunday afternoon. Forgotten Harvest has been working to address food insecurity for 30 years, and delivers 138,000 pounds of surplus food to charities six days a week. “I have millions and millions and millions of pounds of food. I don’t know if food is my problem,” Mayes said. “The distribution of it, and dealing with an aging distribution network that are largely volunteers… that’s my biggest challenge right now.”
